Welcome to the Week 13 Quarterback rankings!
It’s an ugly week for quarterbacks. The good news is that there are no byes, so all that dreck in the deep QB2 range and beyond can be avoided in most cases.
In DFS, the main slate can be attacked from a bunch of angles. Cam is definitely high on my list and Lamar Jackson is there again for a good price. If I go cheap, it will probably be with Marcus Mariota, who could slice the Jets up pretty well.
I’ll be back in a bit with the receivers, running backs and tight ends.
These rankings will be updated on Saturday.
Week 13 Rankings:
|Patrick Mahomes||KC||7.600||KC@OAK 12/02/2018 04:05PM ET||He’ll probably be without Watkins again, but they have the horses to fill the void. Conley is a nice cheap stacking option if Watkins stays sidelined.
|Cam Newton||CAR||6.600||CAR@TB 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Obviously a sweet matchup. Hard to see him failing here.
|Jared Goff||LAR||6.400||LAR@DET 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||He should get it done early and often but it could be over before the fourth quarter. Still, two scores seems likely with more possible.
|Aaron Rodgers||GB||6.200||ARI@GB 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Solid home matchup but he could use a few more healthy weapons.
|Russell Wilson||SEA||6.300||SF@SEA 12/02/2018 04:25PM ET||Playing at a high level and the matchup is beatable.
|Ben Roethlisberger||PIT||6.000||LAC@PIT 12/02/2018 08:20PM ET||He’s at home and he’s healthy, so fire him up.
|Jameis Winston||TB||6.000||CAR@TB 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||This matchup works for how they play. Winston should get there on volume. The Panthers give up plenty of completions.
|Deshaun Watson||HOU||6.100||CLE@HOU 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Good matchup for him at home. His running will loosen this secondary up for some big shots.
|Andrew Luck||IND||5.800||IND@JAX 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||I keep expecting the Jacksonville defense to stand up but they keep falling down further. Luck would be a good bet to scorch them but he’ll be without some weapons and he’ll have a few playing on limited practice reps. He’s a little than than typical this week, but very playable. Still a QB1.
|Philip Rivers||LAC||5.700||LAC@PIT 12/02/2018 08:20PM ET||He’ll have to do more with his arm now that Gordon is out. That’s good, I think.
|Lamar Jackson||BAL||5.900||BAL@ATL 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Flacco is back at practice but this is Jackson’s week. If he struggles, we could be looking at a QB-switch next week. I’m sure I’ll get a lot Lamar Jackson questions this week. It’s just points, folks. Jackson’s had a strong floor so far but there’s still risk as the matchups get a measure tougher and he goes on the road. Not that Atlanta is anything to be scared about. He’s risker than his ranking suggests but he has more ceiling than his ranking suggests as well.
|Matt Ryan||ATL||5.600||BAL@ATL 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Tough matchup but he should be able to match what he did last week or thereabouts.
|Tom Brady||NE||5.800||MIN@NE 12/02/2018 04:25PM ET||He’s home and he’s got his key weapons healthy and locked in. They are one Josh Gordon eruption away from being a potentially scary offense. This game will be a good test of NE’s pass protection. I do see some risk for Brady here, but on balance, I think he does well.
|Kirk Cousins||MIN||5.500||MIN@NE 12/02/2018 04:25PM ET||Diggs is not healthy and that could be a factor. Much of what they do flows from Diggs.
|Carson Wentz||PHI||5.600||WAS@PHI 12/03/2018 08:15PM ET||I’d feel fine starting him, in fact I am starting him in a few big games. They are scuffling a bit but still have talent everywhere and should get more and more out of Golden Tate. I expect Philly to play well and spread Washington out and attack with shorter routes. If they get too greedy, this defense will burn them.
|Marcus Mariota||TEN||5.200||NYJ@TEN 12/02/2018 04:05PM ET||Not a bad option if you are looking to stream. The Jets are beatable.
|Baker Mayfield||CLE||5.600||CLE@HOU 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s a stable option but they are definitely a run-based team and that should limit the pass yardage some, though not as much as the mediocre weapons do. Mayfield and Chubb are the guys making this offense happen. Once the rest of the offense catches up, you can expect big things. This is a matchup where you have to throw to win, but obviously the pass rush has been improving.
|Case Keenum||DEN||5.200||DEN@CIN 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s viable but they keep losing passing game weapons. Sanders is still healthy though, and they should be able to get Courtland Sutton going against this defense.
|Eli Manning||NYG||5.000||CHI@NYG 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||I see trouble. The Giants OL is either on the verge of a breakthrough or this offense is in for a reality slap. Not that this season hasn’t already had a few.
|Josh Rosen||ARI||4.900||ARI@GB 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||He’ll need to throw. This is the good news.
|Matthew Stafford||DET||5.400||LAR@DET 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Down to Golladay and a bunch of nobodies. I’ll pass.
|Colt McCoy||WAS||4.900||WAS@PHI 12/03/2018 08:15PM ET||If he can keep the picks down and use Chris Thompson in the right spots, he could put some good drives together and throw a few scores.
|Chase Daniel||CHI||4.800||CHI@NYG 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||He’ll get another start but this situation is a bit less friendly and there’s a week of film on Daniel. Lower expectations just a bit.
|Ryan Tannehill||MIA||4.900||BUF@MIA 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Tough matchup.
|Cody Kessler||JAX||4.500||IND@JAX 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||I’m keeping an open mind. This kid is a Hue Jackson survivor so he deserves a clean slate. If he can just complete some passes and avoid stupid mistake, he can improve this team quite a bit. For fantasy, he’s 2QB viable.
|Derek Carr||OAK||5.000||KC@OAK 12/02/2018 04:05PM ET||Good matchup, but he has no weapons at all.
|Jeff Driskel||CIN||4.500||DEN@CIN 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Dalton is now on IR, so it’s the Jeff Driskel Show going forward. He’s got some skills, but it’s hard to know if he’s improved on what we saw on his college tape. Him being as good or better than Dalton is not a stretch. If he craters, then the rest of the Cincy skill talent will crater with him. Cross your fingers. ***UPDATE*** I did somne film on Driskel’s Week 12 and he looked ok, but the game was a total blowout by the time he got in there. This will be a better test.
|Nick Mullens||SF||4.700||SF@SEA 12/02/2018 04:25PM ET||He needs to play well or Beathard could get another shot. No way I am risking the in game switch for so little upside.
|Josh Allen||BUF||5.300||BUF@MIA 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Nope. Happy to see him making some plays but he’s still a disaster waiting to happen.
|Josh McCown||NYJ||4.400||NYJ@TEN 12/02/2018 04:05PM ET||Has back and hand injuries and is limited but he’ll go if Darnold cannot. ***UPDATE*** He’s the healthier of the two and is off the injury report. All signs point to McCown being the QB this week.
|Sam Darnold||NYJ||4.500||NYJ@TEN 12/02/2018 04:05PM ET||Limited in practice so looking like a tossup to return this week. (foot)
|Blake Bortles||JAX||4.700||IND@JAX 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Benched, but too late to save anybody’s head from rolling.
|Mitchell Trubisky||CHI||5.700||CHI@NYG 12/02/2018 01:00PM ET||Looking doubtful for Week 13 (shoulder), so look for Chase Daniel to start again.
|Dak Prescott||DAL||5.400||NO@DAL 11/29/2018 08:20PM ET||Tough home matchup but he wins ugly in fantasy. He’s viable but needs to have a good day with his feet or you are probably in trouble.
|Drew Brees||NO||6.200||NO@DAL 11/29/2018 08:20PM ET||Road games are usually less than home games but he’s rolling and should have Tre’Quan Smith back. I’m sticking with him.
