Welcome to the Week 4 Quarterback Rankings!
It’s sort of ugly out there. By the time I finished these rankings I knew this week had a bit of a shape, and it seems like it may favor the defense a bit. Not an easy week to find good quarterback options. Obviously we lost some competency with the recent injuries.
For DFS purposes it’s the usual stuff—Mahomes and the running quarterbacks will be my focus. The one pure passer, other than Mahomes, who has my eye is Aaron Rodgers, who looked flat out pissed off at times last week, but who has a pure throw-to-win matchup in the Eagles this week, and he has them at home. I’m thinking about getting a few Rodgers lineups going in GPPs.
As always, these rankings get finalized on Saturday, so check the final rankings before locking your guys in.
The receivers, running backs and tight ends are on the way.
Bye losses: Jets & 49ers
WEEK 4 RANKINGS
QBRK-Wk4-19-V2
Rank | Name | Team | Cost | Matchup | The Skinny |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Patrick Mahomes | KC | 7.500 | KC@DET 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | He’s really starting to stand out above everyone. |
2 | Lamar Jackson | BAL | 6.900 | CLE@BAL 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Lots of injuries to the Browns DBs so he has lots of potential and he’ll run plenty. |
3 | Dak Prescott | DAL | 6.300 | DAL@NO 09/29/2019 08:20PM ET | The Dak/Amari stack is going to be hot this week, I would think. Too bad it’s off the main slate. |
4 | Russell Wilson | SEA | 6.100 | SEA@ARI 09/29/2019 04:05PM ET | This is one game where the Seattle pace will be heated up a bit. Wilson should do good things. |
5 | Deshaun Watson | HOU | 6.400 | CAR@HOU 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | If they can handle the Panthers pass rush, Watson should be fine. Obviously his mobility is always a good last defense. |
6 | Jared Goff | LAR | 6.300 | TB@LAR 09/29/2019 04:05PM ET | We like Goff at home and I like his ability to get the ball out quickly against this defense. |
7 | Matt Ryan | ATL | 5.900 | TEN@ATL 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Being home is key in this matchup. Ryan should enjoy the local cooking after playing two out of his first three on the road. The Titans are no pushover, but they can be thrown on, especially if you have high end receivers. |
8 | Philip Rivers | LAC | 6.200 | LAC@MIA 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | A solid game is likely and you could catch a break and they hit on some TD passes, but this game will be over early. |
9 | Kyler Murray | ARI | 6.000 | SEA@ARI 09/29/2019 04:05PM ET | The typical divisional angle (slow familiar play) should be light as this is a new Arizona team and scheme. The inside passing game should work if they can keep Murray upright or get him in motion. I’d be stacking with Fitz and Kirk. |
10 | Matthew Stafford | DET | 5.500 | KC@DET 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Take Stafford seriously here because they will not be able to slow down KC. They will almost assuredly fall behind and that should produce one of his biggest passing volume outputs of the year. The Chiefs defense is just ok, so this is a good situation. Fire up your Lions! |
11 | Tom Brady | NE | 6.600 | NE@BUF 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Tough matchup here but betting against the Patriots is tough right now. Still, not looking to pay this much for Brady on the road against a tough defense. A QB1 in seasonal just overpriced on DK. |
12 | Daniel Jones | NYG | 5.300 | WAS@NYG 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | He’s viable as a starter this week but don’t kid yourself. They will be bumps along the way. Washington is enough of a mess to feel good about Jones’ chances here—even without Barkley. |
13 | Andy Dalton | CIN | 5.200 | CIN@PIT 09/30/2019 08:15PM ET | I like dalton here in a much easier matchup compared to last week. They can attack the Steelers in a number of ways. |
14 | Baker Mayfield | CLE | 5.800 | CLE@BAL 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | The offense isn’t working. Mayfield is struggling behind a bad offensive line. The route design has been tough to figure at times—particularly last week versus the Rams. I wouldn’t bet against this team coming together eventually, but this week, on the road, against a nasty defense, I’m just not feeling it. |
15 | Josh Allen | BUF | 5.600 | NE@BUF 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | TOUGH matchup and he has history of struggles vs. the Patriots. This is a week to fade Allen in my view. |
16 | Jameis Winston | TB | 5.700 | TB@LAR 09/29/2019 04:05PM ET | On its face, to win this matchup, the Bucs need to use the middle of the field and they need to run. Their meat and potatoes, Evans and Godwin, will have tough matchups. Additionally, Godwin’s a little banged up. I think it’s fair to expect bad things here but if they can get RoJo and OJH involved, they could soften the defense and make a gam out of it. |
17 | Jacoby Brissett | IND | 5.400 | OAK@IND 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | He’s s solid play but this game should be pretty easy for Indy and I suspect they’ll be led by Marlon Mack rather than the passing attack. Oakland just doesn’t present much of a challenge. They are the proverbial road apple. |
18 | Gardner Minshew II | JAX | 5.200 | JAX@DEN 09/29/2019 04:25PM ET | He’s shown mettle but this is a relatively tough matchup. Vic Fangio’s defense has been solid. |
19 | Kyle Allen | CAR | 5.200 | CAR@HOU 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Tougher matchup this week. Use at your own risk. Seriously, he’s playable but he’s a backup for a reason. |
20 | Case Keenum | WAS | 4.900 | WAS@NYG 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Hs a sore foot so make sure you have a plan B. Oh, and shame on you for having Keenum as a plan A! (chuckle) |
21 | Teddy Bridgewater | NO | 5.200 | DAL@NO 09/29/2019 08:20PM ET | He’s playable but the Taysom Hill thing is always a concern. I’m leaning away from Teddy in single QB leagues but again, he’s playable if you need him. The matchup is obviously mediocre. |
22 | Marcus Mariota | TEN | 5.100 | TEN@ATL 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | The matchup gives him a chance to have a solid day but I’m not betting on it until this offense opens up some. Not holding my breath, mind you. |
23 | Mason Rudolph | PIT | 5.300 | CIN@PIT 09/30/2019 08:15PM ET | He looked flat bad last week. So bad in fact that his best trait (the deep ball) wasn’t even on the table. They need to rescale the offense to fit the new QB and they need to do it fast. I’m using him in 2QB leagues only right now unless desperate. |
24 | Derek Carr | OAK | 5.300 | OAK@IND 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Tough road matchup. No thanks. |
25 | Mitchell Trubisky | CHI | 5.000 | MIN@CHI 09/29/2019 04:25PM ET | Horrible matchup. |
26 | Kirk Cousins | MIN | 5.000 | MIN@CHI 09/29/2019 04:25PM ET | As slow divisional game is expected. |
27 | Joe Flacco | DEN | 4.600 | JAX@DEN 09/29/2019 04:25PM ET | Flacco just isn’t doing much. The deep ball hasn’t really been happening so where’s the upside? This is also a tough matchup. |
28 | Josh Rosen | MIA | 4.500 | LAC@MIA 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | Dear god no. |
29 | Taysom Hill | NO | 4.300 | DAL@NO 09/29/2019 08:20PM ET | Not playable, obviously. |
30 | Cam Newton | CAR | 5.500 | CAR@HOU 09/29/2019 01:00PM ET | OUT (foot) |
31 | Aaron Rodgers | GB | 6.000 | PHI@GB 09/26/2019 08:20PM ET | We’ve seen the Eagles get beaten downfield enough to know that this is Rodgers’ best matchup of the season. Also helping matters is Philly’s ability to score, so the game could become a shootout under certain circumstances. Either way, expect a good day against the Eagles’ pass funnel defense. |
32 | Carson Wentz | PHI | 5.600 | PHI@GB 09/26/2019 08:20PM ET | He’s going to be under fire in this tough road environment and he’ll be without DeSean Jackson again, which hurts here. The Packers are making QB’s lives miserable through three weeks. Wentz has the ability to give you QB1 stats here, but a big game would be surprising. If they can’t run the ball, they are going to have some trouble. |
