Welcome to the Week 16 Tight End Rankings!
Tight end has been the dumpster fire position for most of the year but the receivers are probably a tougher group this week. Even if you are hurting, there are some waiver wire options out there that give you a chance, like Ian Thomas, Blake Jarwin, Adam Shaheen and Jeremy Sprinkle.
As far as DFS goes, I am feeling good about Evan Engram, Zach Ertz and I’m definitely considering paying up for Travis Kelce in a few GPPs. If I am punting the position, I am liking Shaheen at the price floor and also looking at Nick Vannett at the same price.
Lastly, you will notice that I’ve added the “DONATE” button at the top of the right hand column of the home page.
For those who’ve benefitted from Rotobahn, a donation would be greatly appreciated as it will fuel our future. As I said back in August, we want to prove ourselves rather than sell you with a flashy sales pitch.
I hope we have.
This article will be updated on Saturday.
Week 16 Rankings:
All Rotobahn rankings are based on .5 PPR scoring.
|1||Travis Kelce||KC||7.200||KC@SEA 12/23/2018 08:20PM ET||Zeus is ready. I suggest you play him.|
|2||Zach Ertz||PHI||5.900||HOU@PHI 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||It’s a throw to win matchup so I like Ertz here. The Texans give up plenty of production to tight ends.|
|3||George Kittle||SF||6.000||CHI@SF 12/23/2018 04:05PM ET||The Bears are a relatively tough matchup for tight ends, but they are not a shutdown team like the Saints or Packers. Kittle should play his usual role.|
|4||Rob Gronkowski||NE||5.600||BUF@NE 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||I’m on Gronk this week. He’s a legit TE1 option and he has had plenty of good days versus the Bills.|
|5||Eric Ebron||IND||5.700||NYG@IND 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||He was atrocious last week and the Giants are somewhat stingy in terms of TE production.|
|6||Jared Cook||OAK||5.300||DEN@OAK 12/24/2018 08:15PM ET||All of the data suggests he is in a very good spot. I don’t trust him, but he’s burned me so many times that it could be bust bias. If you have Cook, you should feel good about playing him this week. You throw to beat Denver, and Gruden knows this.|
|7||Evan Engram||NYG||4.600||NYG@IND 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s been good when given targets and he gets plenty when OBJ sits so he’s a safe play.|
|8||Austin Hooper||ATL||3.700||ATL@CAR 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||Nursing knee and ankle injuries, so he carries some risk. IF Julio sits he could have some enhanced value, but that assumes he’s playing himself. What makes him a good option this week is the matchup. The Panthers have given up major production to tight ends this season. ***UPDATE*** Hooper is off the injury report. Fire him up!|
|9||David Njoku||CLE||3.800||CIN@CLE 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s got plenty of ceiling but he has some bust potential too. The good news is that the big play is very much on teh table here. The Bengals could easily show up flat here.|
|10||Trey Burton||CHI||4.000||CHI@SF 12/23/2018 04:05PM ET||Very much like Njoku in that he could go off for a gig play or two or get lost in the game flow and game script as I expect the Bears to win this one big.|
|11||Cameron Brate||TB||3.900||TB@DAL 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||The ‘Boys are a solid matchup for tight ends, so Brate is very much in play despite his recent low usage. Dallas is good at taking the outside away too, which could funnel some throws inside.|
|12||Vance McDonald||PIT||4.100||PIT@NO 12/23/2018 04:25PM ET||He’s a big play guy so he’s viable, even in this ultra tough TE matchup.|
|13||Jimmy Graham||GB||3.700||GB@NYJ 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||Tough matchup with Jamaal Adams.|
|14||Ian Thomas||CAR||3.500||ATL@CAR 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s playable even without Cam in there. In fact, Heinicke is a QB who throws better on the short to intermediate routes, so he might hit the TE often. There’s some upside here, but some risk too.|
|15||Blake Jarwin||DAL||3.000||TB@DAL 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||More involved the last few weeks. He’s viable and Tampa is a solid matchup.|
|16||Adam Shaheen||CHI||2.500||CHI@SF 12/23/2018 04:05PM ET||This dude is a serious freak and his role is growing at Anthony Miller’s expense. It makes sense as it gives them an extra big body to uncork Tarik Cohen and Trey Burton on those interior screens and such. I think Shaheen may be the best dart throw TE start this week. If you are in a jam, he gives you a legit shot at a score and maybe some yardage too.|
|17||Kyle Rudolph||MIN||3.400||MIN@DET 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||He’s viable, but so many letdowns in good matchups this year.|
|18||Chris Herndon||NYJ||3.100||GB@NYJ 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||I like Herndon, and he’s made some plays on most weeks, but this matchup is tough so be realistic. The good news is that he’s either 2nd or 3rd in the target pecking order with only Robby Anderson clearly ahead of him.|
|19||Jeremy Sprinkle||WAS||2.500||WAS@TEN 12/22/2018 04:30PM ET||He's a legit sleeper this week and he can help you if you are in a jam. I just added him in a dynasty league so you may be able to as well. The only concern is the matchup. The Titans have not yielded a TE TD all year.|
|20||C.J. Uzomah||CIN||3.300||CIN@CLE 12/23/2018 01:00PM ET||Getting consistent targets but turning them into about 30 yards a game. I’d expect about that here.|
|21||Anthony Firkser||TEN||3.500||WAS@TEN 12/22/2018 04:30PM ET|
|22||Nick Vannett||SEA||2.500||KC@SEA 12/23/2018 08:20PM ET||Good matchup. The Chiefs are hurting big time at safety this week.|
|23||Benjamin Watson||NO||2.700||PIT@NO 12/23/2018 04:25PM ET|
|24||Ricky Seals-Jones||ARI||2.900||LAR@ARI 12/23/2018 04:05PM ET|
