Look out for LaMichael ... and AJ too
Two of our favorite rookie talents could be unveiled this weekend and I can’t lie--I’m excited to watch. We absolutely loved the 49er draft this year, but a crowded depth chart kept both RB LaMichael James (picked 61 overall) and WR A.J. Jenkins (30 overall) off of the active roster on game days. Both project to be active for the first time as pros in Week 13, and we expect both players to shine if they get the opportunity to play from scrimmage.
In big redraft leagues, I am adding James and keeping a very close eye on Jenkins, who I think has a chance to be special. In dynasty and long term leagues, I would make adding both players a priority though in dynasty, they should already be owned.
James, in particular, is a guy to watch. With Kendall Hunter’s season ending achilles tear, there is an opening for a play-maker behind Frank Gore. James could end up being fantasy viable in a few weeks if he shows he is ready. Stashing him now in 12 and 14-team leagues is a solid idea.
Jenkins has more players to contend with as Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Randy Moss are proven talents, but if Jenkins has picked up the offense, he could usurp Moss and become a big part of the SF gameplan as things move ahead. If you have the bench space, he’s not a terrible stash himself.
The bottom line is that these are two guys to know about and to monitor now that they are nearing their unveilings. Our scouting grades on both players is really high. These are potential impact talents.
