Dynasty Update: Denard Robinson, RB, Jaguars
Shoelace is officially a tailback
If you read Rotobahn last year, you know that Jacksonville’s Denard Robinson was one of our underrated guys going into the 2013 draft.
Last week at the combine, I attended HC Gus Bradley’s press conference. The second year HC is clearly excited about his second year RB, and that’s what Robinson is now according to the coach ... a RB. "A guy like Denard Robinson. We didn't even know what position he was going to play for us - he was the offensive weapon. Now we know, 'OK, we're going to really lock in on running back,' and see what he can do." Can Robinson be a factor? "I'm not going to say one way or another, but I'm really excited to find out. The guy is infectious, he has natural traits, the team gravitates toward him, he has explosiveness and he has really good vision so let's give him a chance and see what he has. I wouldn't put it by him that he would be a story."
As I said in our Combine Notes, Robinson is a nice player to add in long term formats right now, and he’s a player to target in drafts this year. Where we decide to target him will have a lot to do with who else is on the Jaguars’ roster come July. The thing to know about Robinson, as we said in our original scouting report, is that he has huge upside if he can get regular touches. Coach Bradley is a high-energy guy and he clearly likes the energy that Robinson brings to the field. The fact that the former Michigan QB is now focusing on one position is a big plus for his fantasy potential. That he’s a running back is even better as there’s more scarcity at RB than WR these days.
This story is not making the rounds at this point, so the time to make a move for Robinson in dynasty and long terms leagues is right now. Based on Denard’s 2013 stats, he might be available at bargain basement prices. Check out our original scouting report on Robinson if you have not already. It contains some outstanding footage from his days in Ann Arbor.
This is the first of many Dynasty Updates we will be doing this year. These updates, along with our Scouting Reports and other offseason articles will all be indexed in The Rotobahn. It’s the the place to go when you are looking for info about a particular player or regarding a particular coaching change.
