Welcome to the Week 4 quarterback rankings. I have done comments for tonight’s players only and will be adding more when I post the final rankings this Saturday. The bye weeks are here so get ready for the weekly scramble until they end in Week 13. I’ll be back later with the tight ends, running backs and wide receivers. Jim Hackett and I will be doing our weekly podcast at WEEI tomorrow. I’ll post links to it here at Rotobahn. For those who don’t know, all of our weekly content is easy to find by going to The Rotobahn, where I index all that we do.

Bye weeks: Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers

Peyton Manning DEN PHI Lock starter.
Drew Brees NO MIA Lock starter.
Tony Romo DAL @SD No way you should sit him here. Even with Miles Austin out, he should go off here.
Matt Ryan ATL NE He’s going to need to throw a lot in this game. The Pats have no answer for Julio Jones and Roddy is getting healthier though he’s still less than 100% and is listed as questionable.
Andrew Luck IND @JAC He is a very safe play here.
Tom Brady NE @ATL Sue me, but I am a Brady believer. The guy just gets it done. His upside is limited without Gronk, but there are rumors that he could play. There are even rumors that Amendola may suit up. I doubt that NE would do something that short-sighted, but it’s out there.
Robert Griffin III WAS @OAK Good matchup and he’s gaining steam.
Jay Cutler CHI @DET I like the matchup and the Bears have level-jumped on offense.
Matthew Stafford DET CHI There is some risk with Stafford in terms of how well the Bears are playing and with Nate Burleson now gone. You also have Reggie Bush banged up, but he’ll play this week. Detroit needs to limit his touches/snaps more.
Russell Wilson SEA @HOU Not a great matchup, but he generally finds a way to put fantasy points on the board.
Michael Vick PHI @DEN He’s going to need points and Kelly will let him go this week. I expect plenty of foot-points.
Andy Dalton CIN @CLE He and AJ Green have done well against the Browns. He can be your QB1 this week.
Ryan Tannehill MIA @NO Big Game for Tannehill. If he plays well here, people will start buying in. Can he handle the Rob Ryan blitz packages? He’s got plenty of upside because they are letting him throw to win.
Joe Flacco BAL @BUF I like this matchup for Flacco.
Ben Roethlisberger PIT @MIN Looked better last week ad Minny can be had on the back end.
Philip Rivers SD DAL Dallas is looking improved on defense so this matchup is a little tougher than it looks. Still, Rivers is playable if you need him.
Terrelle Pryor OAK WAS Will probably play and could have a big day, but he could one hit away with the concussion situation.
Alex Smith KC NYG Managing the game well helps not in fantasy.
Eli Manning NYG @KC I’m amazed at how bad the Giants OL has been, but you can’t bet on Eli until they get that mess cleaned up.
EJ Manuel BUF BAL Tough matchup for the rookie as the Ravens’ corners have serious game.
Carson Palmer ARI @TB Tough road matchup and we’re not sure Fitz is 100% yet. Riskier than usual.
Geno Smith NYJ @TEN Looking better than I thought he would, but it’s a medium road matchup and he is turning the ball over too much.
Brian Hoyer CLE CIN Tough matchup.
Jake Locker TEN NYJ Locker’s at home but throwing on the Jets is not an easy task.
Matt Schaub HOU SEA VERY tough matchup and Andre Johnson is less than 100% and is no lock to play.
Blaine Gabbert JAC IND Risky at best. Avoid.
Matt Cassel MIN PIT Ponder is out and Cassel is in. Nothing to get excited about here.
Mike Glennon TB ARI No way you should be playing him at this point.
Colin Kaepernick SF @STL (Already Played ... originally ranked 8th) There are a lot of folks running away from him right now, but he’s a two-way threat with all the skill he needs to get it done. If Vernon Davis plays, I see CK as a good play. He’s more of a borderline
Sam Bradford STL SF (Already played ... originally ranked 14th) He’s always got the potential to go off, even against a tough defense, but you should at least consider other options here.
