Welcome to the Week 8 Quarterback Rankings. There are a few lock QB1s on the bye, so there’s plenty of competition for talent on the waiver wire, especially in deeper leagues. I’ll do my best to sort it all out for you and I’ll update the rankings over the weekend as always to reflect new injury information.  I’ll be back later today with the running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.  They'll all be posted before kickoff tonight.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out today’s update of The Watch List.

Week 9 Byes: Arizona, Denver, San Francisco, Detroit, Jacksonville and the New York Giants.

Drew Brees NO @NYJ He should have a good night as we suspect that Sean Payton and Brees will find the mismatches with the Jets’ secondary. Expect big plays.
Cam Newton CAR ATL He should go off again in this game. Atlanta is ripe for the taking.
Aaron Rodgers GB CHI The Bears are hurting on defense right now and Rodgers should gave a nice night even with a depleted receiving corp.
Tony Romo DAL MIN This is a get-well matchup for the Dallas offense in more ways than one. I expect Romo post very good numbers
Philip Rivers SD @WAS Great matchup and he’s got fresh legs coming off the bye.
Andrew Luck IND @HOU Not a great matchup, but Luck gets it done in most situations. He’s a solid option on a tough week.
Robert Griffin III WAS SD He should bounce back at home after a rough Week 8. San Diego has been a good match-up for quarterbacks so far this year.
Russell Wilson SEA TB He should bounce back from a tough game. They don’t use a single player, so the Revis factor is minimized, even if they play more man coverage.
Terrelle Pryor OAK PHI He is a good talent and he can get it done in more than one way. He’s a QB1 this week in all formats.
Tom Brady NE PIT Yeah, he’s been a bad fantasy play lately, but I’d avoid counting him out. He should scratch out some points against a Steelers defense that is tough against the pass.
Ben Roethlisberger PIT @NE He’s a good play and he gets a bump if Talib sits out again.
Matt Ryan ATL @CAR He’s viable, but with so much missing talent, his upside is almost all gone.
Alex Smith KC @BUF He’s a reliable play if you need him.
Joe Flacco BAL @CLE Flacco is a decent play this week with so many quality QBs out. The matchup is mediocre.
Jake Locker TEN @STL He has some potential here but the Rams are tougher than people think on defense as we saw last week. He’s a decent play in 12-team leagues.
Josh McCown CHI @GB He’s a decent option if you’re hurting. Cutler is out for sure. Green Bay has some injuries on defense so the matchup is not as bad as you might think.
Nick Foles PHI @OAK We still like Foles, but he’s not consistent at this point. The matchup is pretty good if you’re desperate.
Case Keenum HOU IND He’s a viable play after looking so good in Week 7.
Geno Smith NYJ NO He’ll post better numbers than last week, but he’s a volatile option and better left on the bench if possible.
Jason Campbell CLE BAL He performed capably in Week 8, but this matchup is pretty tough.
Christian Ponder MIN @DAL He has been announced as the starter but you can do better. The matchup is good if you really need to use him.
Jeff Tuel BUF KC We are not 100% sure who will be the Bills starter this week. Regardless of who starts the only thing we know about the Bills quarterback is that he will make the Chiefs’ defense the best fantasy defense in week nine.
Kellen Clemens STL TEN After watching him play last week it’s hard to fathom any matchup that would make Clemons a good fantasy option. Keep him on the bench or better yet the waiver wire.
Mike Glennon TB @SEA He’s had his good moments and his bad moments but no way do you want to play him in this game at Seattle.
Andy Dalton CIN @MIA (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 8th) A decent matchup and he is playing well right now.
Ryan Tannehill MIA CIN (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 18th) Terrible matchup--even at home.
