Welcome to the Week 9 Quarterback Rankings. I’ll be back a little later with the running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. All positions should be up before Thursday Night kickoff.

Tonight’s TNF tilt has all the makings of an ugly one. You have two very mediocre offenses and it’s a divisional game. I’m fading it for DFS purposes but in seasonal there are some guys worth playing. Tyrod is a QB1, albeit one without a ton of upside. McCown is playable if you are in need. The position as a whole is light—with Brady and to a lesser extent Big Ben and Rivers on the bye. And, you obviously have other problems like no Luck, Aaron Rodgers or Carson Palmer. It’s a crazy year.

These rankings will be updated on Saturday.

Bye losses:

  • Patriots
  • Steelers
  • Chargers
  • Vikings
  • Bears
  • Browns

Rank PLAYER TEAM Cost Matchup PPG THE SKINNY
1 Russell Wilson SEA 7300 WAS@SEA 11/05/2017 04:05PM ET 24.531 He’s really got it going now and he lit the Texans up last week. This home matchup has some of the same appeal because Washington can score points. That is good news for game flow, and let’s be real, the Seahawks are now a passing team even when they are ahead. Wilson is the fulcrum of the offense and he has a legit LT to protect his blind side now. This is a relative luxury if you look at his recent past. He’s worth the money on DK.
2 Drew Brees NO 7000 TB@NO 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 18.591 Great matchup at home. You throw to beat Tampa for the most part and they have the offense to keep the game high scoring.
3 Dak Prescott DAL 6700 KC@DAL 11/05/2017 04:25PM ET 21.366 No Zeke so this will be a bigger challenge as teams can look pass a bit more than normal. Still, Dak’s a multi-pronged producer and the Chiefs are no a struggling defense. He will probably get more foot-points without Zeke. That’s my guess at least.
4 Alex Smith KC 6500 KC@DAL 11/05/2017 04:25PM ET 22.58 Good matchup and he’s clicking right now. My money says things end badly down the road, but he’s hot right now and Dallas plays less than good defense. Smith blunts their best attribute (pass rush) by getting the ball out fast.
5 Cam Newton CAR 6300 ATL@CAR 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 18.893 It’s hard to envision him having a big game here without running a fair amount. Of course, he probably will.
6 Derek Carr OAK 6400 OAK@MIA 11/05/2017 08:30PM ET 16.623 Another solid east coast matchup for the Raiders. Do they get worn down going coast to coast on consecutive weeks? Carr has tossed for 730 yards over his last two games. He should be productive here.
7 Matthew Stafford DET 6100 DET@GB 11/06/2017 08:30PM ET 18.406 He’s looking pretty good when you consider what else is out there this week.
8 Carson Wentz PHI 6100 DEN@PHI 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 23.103 Very tough road matchup, but he does have the interior weapons to attack it with some effectiveness. A big game is tough to predict.
9 Kirk Cousins WAS 5700 WAS@SEA 11/05/2017 04:05PM ET 21.157 Tough matchup, and he’s going to be a bit short-handed with Crowder and Reed both banged up.
10 Matt Ryan ATL 6200 ATL@CAR 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 15.966 A decent enough road matchup.
11 Jameis Winston TB 5800 TB@NO 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 17.489 Great matchup but he’s risky because of his injured shoulder. He’s no lock to finish the game. I’m playing him in one league and he certainly has a shot at a big game, but the risk is real as well.
12 Jared Goff LAR 5500 LAR@NYG 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 16.209 Like him here as a streamer on a down week with lots of bye losses. The Giants will be playing without Janoris Jenkins.
13 Marcus Mariota TEN 6000 BAL@TEN 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 16.24 Struggled against the Browns last week so tough to trust here.
14 Jacoby Brissett IND 5200 IND@HOU 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 14.398 He’s playable but he’s sketchy in a tough road matchup. Houston’s given up some stats in recent weeks but not to bad offenses.
15 Blake Bortles JAX 4700 CIN@JAX 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 14.517 In my best Capt. Lou Albano, he’s viable but not desirable. Getting Dede Westbrook back is a plus.
16 Jay Cutler MIA 4900 OAK@MIA 11/05/2017 08:30PM ET 10.8 He’s been bad Cutler so far and he’s only worth a look this week out of desperation. Having said that, pass volume could be on the rise with Ajayi gone. That’s worth keeping an eye on.
17 Andy Dalton CIN 5000 CIN@JAX 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 15.217 No way I am using him here. Jax is too good right now.
18 Tom Savage HOU 4600 IND@HOU 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET Well, this is sort of an interesting one. He’s been BAD this year. The word I would use to describe his pocket presence would be listless—to the point where I would not even consider using him. Here’s the thing. The team around him has been playing with great energy and the guy he lost his job too outplayed by immeasurable amounts. In my experience in real sports and as an observer of pro sports is that, sometimes, the vanquished come back a little differently than they left. In short, is it possible that Watson inspires Savage to play more aggressively? After all, if you watch his college film, Savage is a guy who CAN throw the football. He’s priced so low that you have to at least consider using him. The Colts are borderline helpless in their secondary and generate little in terms of a pass rush. It takes guts, but if there was EVER a time to play Savage, this would be it.
19 Brett Hundley GB 5100 DET@GB 11/06/2017 08:30PM ET 6.82 He’s got plenty of ceiling but we saw the floor in his first start so hopefully you can stash him rather than play him.
20 Eli Manning NYG 4800 LAR@NYG 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 15.443 It’s a tough matchup because he has so little to work with. Sterling Shepard returns but is he healthy? He may be coming back early because they are so shot handed. I thought his injury looked bad. I’m skeptical. Still, even if he’s 100 percent, this is a rough spot for Eli.
21 Drew Stanton ARI 4700 ARI@SF 11/05/2017 04:05PM ET 1.88 If I have to use a bad option, I’m looking at Stanton. Has weapons and the matchup is good.
22 Joe Flacco BAL 4600 BAL@TEN 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 8.775 Nope. Break glass only in case of emergency.
23 C.J. Beathard SF 4900 ARI@SF 11/05/2017 04:05PM ET 10.82 None for me, thanks.
24 Brock Osweiler DEN 4500 DEN@PHI 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 0.62 No effing way.
25 Deshaun Watson HOU 8100 IND@HOU 11/05/2017 01:00PM ET 26.266 ***UPDATE**** He's out for the season with an ACL injury. He’s been a revelation—even if you thought he was the next big thing, it would have been crazy to predict what we’ve seen for fantasy purposes. Unlike Kizer and Trubisky, Watson actually has weapons. Two big ones now that Fuller is healthy. He has a huge floor this week in a great matchup against a weak Colts defense. He’s worth some shares in DFS despite his now huge price tag.
26 Tyrod Taylor BUF 5900 BUF@NYJ 11/02/2017 08:25PM ET 15.317 (ALREADY PLAYED) Solid matchup and he has a new toy in Benjamin.
27 Josh McCown NYJ 5500 BUF@NYJ 11/02/2017 08:25PM ET 16.663 (ALREADY PLAYED) Viable for sure at home on a short week, but TNF combined with a divisional opponent certainly has low scoring downside written all over it. This game is a total wildcard.
