Welcome to the Week 2 running back rankings. There will be some adjustments to these rankings as I continue to work through all the injury news and such, but I wanted to get the initial rankings out in advance of tonight’s game. I’ll also be adding more player comments.  There’s not a whole lot to say with the exception of saying that you want to keep Stevan Ridley in your lineup. That might have been a different story if Shane Vereen hadn’t gotten hurt, but at this point, Ridley is one of the few reliable commodities the Patriots have to work with.

I’ll be back in a bit with the wide receivers and the tight ends.  Jim Hackkett and I sat down for another podcast today, you can listen here.

RANK PLAYER TEAM Opponent THE SKINNY
LeSean McCoy PHI SD He gets the nod after an absurd week one performance.
Adrian Peterson MIN @CHI He’s here for Week 2 due to the rough matchup.
Matt Forte CHI MIN A good matchup for him and he looked great Week 1.
Reggie Bush DET @ARI Assuming he’s 100%, he will be a huge part of the game plan given how strong the Cards are at the corner position. Big game potential.
Doug Martin TB NO A much better matchup than last week.
Jamaal Charles KC DAL He should be the focal point against Dallas.
Ray Rice BAL CLE He’ll get his one way or another. Rice’s versatility helps him in tough matchups.
Eddie Lacy GB WAS He should bust out a bit this week.
Trent Richardson CLE @BAL No way they fail to get him the ball like last week.
Steven Jackson ATL STL Ya think he’ll be a little jacked for this one?
Arian Foster HOU TEN They may limit his touches a bit but he’s still a RB1 this week.
C.J. Spiller BUF CAR Bad matchup for the 2nd straight week. He’ll be better than Week 1, but a huge game would be quite a feat.
Marshawn Lynch SEA SF It’s a tough matchup, but Lynch is still a solid option. He’s gotten it done against them before.
Alfred Morris WAS @GB The Pack have a good front and they can defend the run as we saw last week.
Darren Sproles NO @TB He’s going to be very active this week.
Darren McFadden OAK JAC He’s healthy and Terrelle Pryor looks like a benefit for DMC as far as loosening up the defense is concerned.
DeMarco Murray DAL @KC Was very active last week and he’s healthy for now.
David Wilson NYG DEN Still loving his upside and he is going to make some play in the passing game this week. Bump him down a few pegs if he isn’t starting but I think he will be.
Maurice Jones-Drew JAC @OAK Still waiting to see the old MJD. He’s going to get a lot of touches, so he’s a viable RB2.
DeAngelo Williams CAR @BUF He should see the ball a lot in this game. Solid RB2 option.
Frank Gore SF @SEA Tough matchup, but he’ll get plenty of touches.
Ahmad Bradshaw IND MIA He’s the man now and he’s going to be an RB2 for as long as he stays healthy. Vick Ballard tore his ACL in practice on Thursday and is done for the year.
Chris Johnson TEN @HOU He’s going to see the ball a lot but it’s a bad matchup.
Lamar Miller MIA @IND He should bounce back this week in a solid matchup.
Daryl Richardson STL @ATL He’s a little banged up and could yield some snaps this week to Pead, but that remain to be seen.
Ben Tate HOU TEN Tate is a strong flex option in a game the Texans should have a big lead in.
Ryan Mathews SD @PHI He needs to play more snaps than they gave him last week. He’s a flex option for now.
Giovani Bernard CIN PIT He’s a play-maker so he’s a viable flex, but he’s still in a time share and it’s a bad matchup.
Rashard Mendenhall ARI DET Very hard to see him doing much this week against Detroit. He’s banged up and his OL is overmatched.
Knowshon Moreno DEN @NYG Moreno has a chance to be a solid flex option. We’re still trying to get a feel for how the Broncos will play things on the goal line.
Pierre Thomas NO @TB He’ll be more involved this week than usual. At least he should be. Not a bad flex.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis CIN PIT Terrible matchup.
Joique Bell DET @ARI Looked great last week and is a weekly flex option until proven otherwise.
Bryce Brown PHI SD Not a bad flex in this matchup. I expect his touches to increase as we move forward. McCoy can’t carry the ball 30 time a week.
Fred Jackson BUF CAR Looked great last week.
Roy Helu WAS @GB It’s a good matchup for Helu, who should see a few more snaps than he did against Philly.
Mark Ingram NO @TB Bad matchup for Ingram against Tampa’s line.
Montee Ball DEN @NYG Could see some carries and perhaps some goal line carries, but he’s too risky right now. Still our best bet for value in this backfield over the long haul.
Daniel Thomas MIA @IND He’s playing and he scored last week, but Miller is the more dangerous back.
Bernard Pierce BAL CLE He’s questionable with a thigh injury, but he is expected to play. Check his status before using him.
Jonathan Dwyer PIT @CIN Bad matchup, but he’ll probably be their most valuable back in this game.
Ronnie Hillman DEN @NYG Should see some carries.
Michael Bush CHI MIN Is always a threat to score.
Da'Rel Scott NYG DEN Had a knee issue in practice on Wednesday and could be limited this week.
Mike Tolbert CAR @BUF Always a threat to score.
Kendall Hunter SF @SEA He’s looking good but it’s a tough matchup.
Isaac Redman PIT @CIN He’ll get some more chances this week.
Danny Woodhead SD @PHI They should be playing from behind. That could lead to a lot of snaps for Woodhead.
Ronnie Brown SD @PHI Played a lot last week.
James Starks GB WAS Looked good last week and looks like the next man up after Lacy right now.
Jacquizz Rodgers ATL STL
Robert Turbin SEA SF
Isaiah Pead STL @ATL Could play a little this week.
Alfonso Smith ARI DET
Marcel Reece OAK JAC
Justin Forsett JAC @OAK
Knile Davis KC DAL He’s a player to watch with Charles already nicked up.
Shonn Greene TEN @HOU He hasn’t practiced yet, so be careful and it’s a bad matchup.
Zac Stacy STL @ATL
Lance Dunbar DAL @KC He’s back and he’ll help them, but not your fantasy team. At least, not yet.
Denard Robinson JAC @OAK
Felix Jones PIT @CIN
Andre Ellington ARI DET
Toby Gerhart MIN @CHI
Christine Michael SEA SF
Stepfan Taylor ARI DET
Brandon Jacobs NYG DEN
Rashad Jennings OAK JAC
Stevan Ridley NE NYJ (ALREADY PLAYED) Jets have a solid run defense, but Ridley is going to get the ball with Vereen out. Blount should get some carries too, but Ridley is much more advanced in terms of the Pats’ system. He’s better in pass pro.
LeGarrette Blount NE NYJ (ALREADY PLAYED) He could so some damage and he’s always a threat to score if he is getting some carries and he should this week.
Leon Washington NE NYJ (ALREADY PLAYED) Keep an eye on Washington tonight as he has a skill set the Patriots could use on 3rd downs and passing situations. He could end up having a solid PPR day if they use him. No, you should not get him active.
Brandon Bolden NE NYJ (ALREADY PLAYED) If he plays, he could make a significant impact, but he’s highly questionable.
Chris Ivory NYJ @NE (ALREADY PLAYED) He looked just ok last week ... meaning that he looked healthy. He’s a big play guy and he’s got some flex appeal, but this is a tough matchup. Ivory owners should just hope he gets through the game healthy.
Bilal Powell NYJ @NE (ALREADY PLAYED) He has some limited flex appeal in larger formats, but this is another tough matchup.
Vick Ballard IND MIA Out for the year. Tore his ACL in practice on Thursday.
