Welcome to the Week 6 Running Back Rankings. I’ll be back in a little bit with the wide receivers and tight ends. All positions should be up before Thursday Night kickoff.

Zeke and Shady are the big losses this week, but in Zeke’s case, the time off could be more than just his bye. The NFL has won this round and Zeke is now suspended pending the next round of legal B.S.

The Green Bay situation is fluid. Jones will be a RB2 at least but if Montgomery can’t go, he moves up to a borderline RB1 which is where I have him now. He could be a Saturday downgrade. Doug Martin’s return adds some beef to the RB1s. Leonard Fournette could soon be elite if they continue to play Chris Ivory less as they did in Week 5.

These rankings will be updated Saturday.

Bye teams:

  • Bills
  • Bengals
  • Cowboys
  • Seahawks

These rankings are based on .5 PPR scoring.

Kareem Hunt KC 8200 PIT@KC 04:25PM ET 28.1 Should see the ball a ton. No reason to shy away. Steelers are giving up chunks on the ground. He’s worth the money on DK. He’s finding his way into my flex spot a lot.
Le'Veon Bell PIT 9600 PIT@KC 04:25PM ET 19.9 He’s played more snaps almost every week. Up to 73 in Week 5. He’s one of the few full time backs in the league. A good bet for volume here, but a somewhat challenging matchup. I’m not paying the DraftKings price this week. Well, maybe a little bit.
Leonard Fournette JAX 8000 LAR@JAX 04:05PM ET 22.88 Looked outstanding last week and had a bigger snap edge over Ivory compared to prior weeks. This bodes well.
Devonta Freeman ATL 7400 MIA@ATL 01:00PM ET 19.375 Great matchup for him.
Melvin Gordon LAC 7800 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 18.96 Looked much better last week and he’s getting the volume.
Todd Gurley II LAR 7700 LAR@JAX 04:05PM ET 26.52 This is a big game for Gurley. The matchup is solid but the defense can load up to stop him because of their corners. If he hits here, that bodes very well for the rest of the year.
C.J. Anderson DEN 6600 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 16.175 Volume is pretty much assured here. Denver should own time of possession.
Jordan Howard CHI 5900 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 14.72 Should be the center of the offense. The young QB needs to work off of the run.
Doug Martin TB 5800 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 15.2 Looked great last week and should be in line for more work going forward. Not a great matchup, but he should touch the ball 20 times.
Lamar Miller HOU 5400 CLE@HOU 01:00PM ET 14.12 Should see plenty of carries this week and with Foreman’s fumbling, he’ll probably share in clock killing duties if they get a big lead.
Aaron Jones GB 5600 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 8.575 Nice ceiling here but role is far from locked in. It’s sounding more and more like TyMo is playing sparingly if he does play.
DeMarco Murray TEN 5200 IND@TEN 08:30PM ET 9.84 49 to 11 snap edge over Henry last week, so he’s really the guy.
Mike Gillislee NE 5500 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 9.72 Should see plenty of 2nd half carries, plus they will be at or near the goal line all day long. No Burkhead again, so I have him a Saturday bump.
Mark Ingram NO 4400 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 11.125 Love him here with AP gone. He can score multiple times in this game.
Jay Ajayi MIA 5700 MIA@ATL 01:00PM ET 9.35 He was given a good workload last week. That’s the good news. Now he needs the rest of his offense to help him. Not counting on that this week.
Jerick McKinnon MIN 4100 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 8.04 Looked great last week, but they’ve gone away from him before, so I’m still a shade skeptical. Love the player.
Tevin Coleman ATL 5000 MIA@ATL 01:00PM ET 13.15 This feels like a big Coleman game because Atlanta should have a big lead.
Alvin Kamara NO 4500 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 13.75 His reps are now assured. He should split fairly evenly with Ingram, but NO uses the backs so much, it’s like having a two thirds share.
Ameer Abdullah DET 4900 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 10.32 Nice ceiling in this game and they will try to use him early to slow things down and hold the ball. If it works, he could have a nice day. If not, the game could swing towards Theo Riddick.
Duke Johnson Jr. CLE 5100 CLE@HOU 01:00PM ET 15.14 Love the switch to Hogan for him. Hogan looks for all his receivers and he’ll get Duke the ball often.
Elijah McGuire NYJ 4600 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 6.62 He will split time with Forte this week and Powell is likely to sit with a sore calf. McGuire is the healthiest Jets back so he should get the most action.
Javorius Allen BAL 5400 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 12.98 Not sure much I trust anything in this backfield but Allen gets most of the playing time. In PPR leagues, he’s got some floor to him.
Chris Thompson WAS 5000 SF@WAS 01:00PM ET 19.425
Carlos Hyde SF 6200 SF@WAS 01:00PM ET 15.14 Tough to figure here with his hip and a pseudo demotion into a committee. The matchup is also bad. He’s a RB2 and a bit of a risky one.
Marshawn Lynch OAK 5000 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 7.84 Needs the TDs based on what we’ve seen so far. Has a shot at one if Carr plays.
James White NE 5200 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 11.92 He’s going to get plenty of touches against the Jets. No Burkhead again, so I have him a Saturday bump.
Adrian Peterson ARI 3400 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 2.625 He’s fresh and should run hard, but how much room this OL can give him in an open question.
Andre Ellington ARI 5300 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 11.72 Could get less work with AP in town but should still own all passing situations. Give him a solid bump in full PPR.
Frank Gore IND 4500 IND@TEN 08:30PM ET 10.42 Giving up more to the younger backs but still a viable flex play in bigger leagues. Expect about 15 touches.
Theo Riddick DET 4300 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 8.12 Gets a bump to RB2 status in PPR.
Tarik Cohen CHI 5100 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 12.86 Still plenty of upside.
Matt Breida SF 4700 SF@WAS 01:00PM ET 4.98 A Rotobahn sleeper making a serious play for fantasy value. Pick this guy up if you can, because it sounds like they may move Hyde.
Isaiah Crowell CLE 4200 CLE@HOU 01:00PM ET 6.82 Still the lead guy on the ground but this is a tough matchup and he’s been mediocre.
Marlon Mack IND 3900 IND@TEN 08:30PM ET 9.867 A riser who could see increased snaps this week. Saw 17 snaps in Week 5.
Matt Forte NYJ 3900 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 7.4 Sounds like he’ll be back in some capacity this week.
Alex Collins BAL 4400 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 6.025 Getting carries but not a great matchup.
Latavius Murray MIN 4700 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 2.58 Was outplayed and outsnapped by McKinnon, so tough to buy into this week. Has some flex appeal as a potential goal line back.
Derrick Henry TEN 5000 IND@TEN 08:30PM ET 5.34 Clearly behind Murray for now. I’m a bit surprised that he’s been so little used, but that could change fast so hang onto him.
Wayne Gallman NYG 3900 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 13.1 Should have a role lie last week’s but this matchup is brutal Denver will load the box.
D'Onta Foreman HOU 4200 CLE@HOU 01:00PM ET 4.72 Could get some extra carries if they get a lead.
Jamaal Charles DEN 4100 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 6.9 Flex appeal but not much more. Should see 5-10 touches.
Samaje Perine WAS 4400 SF@WAS 01:00PM ET 3.975 Could see some action this week depending on what the new pecking order is and depending on how much work Kelley can handle. I expect Washington to get a lead.
Ty Montgomery GB 6700 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 16.025 Hard to see them using him considering his injury and his value to the offense. He may lose some of his job to Jones, but he’s still a huge asset in the passing game and as a runner. That said, this week would seem to favor Jones strongly.
Bilal Powell NYJ 6000 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 11.84 No practice with a sore calf. Looks like he’s probably out.
Orleans Darkwa NYG 3700 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 5.95 Ran hard last week but this matchup is brutal.
Jalen Richard OAK 3900 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 6.38
Shane Vereen NYG 3600 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 7.78 Has some PPR appeal.
Dion Lewis NE 3800 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 5.42 Has some big play upside against the Jets.
Charcandrick West KC 4000 PIT@KC 04:25PM ET 7.32
Chris Ivory JAX 3800 LAR@JAX 04:05PM ET 5.96
Malcolm Brown LAR 3900 LAR@JAX 04:05PM ET 3.875
Jamaal Williams GB 4200 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 1.2
Kenyan Drake MIA 4000 MIA@ATL 01:00PM ET 1
Zach Zenner DET 3600 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 2.533
Jacquizz Rodgers TB 4000 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 7.375
DeAndre Washington OAK 3700 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 4.625
Robert Turbin IND 3700 IND@TEN 08:30PM ET 3.58
Austin Ekeler LAC 3000 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 5
James Conner PIT 4500 PIT@KC 04:25PM ET 1.1
Damien Williams MIA 3700 MIA@ATL 01:00PM ET 1.5
Branden Oliver LAC 4000 LAC@OAK 04:25PM ET 3.2
Charles Sims TB 3500 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 3.925
Corey Grant JAX 3300 LAR@JAX 04:05PM ET 2.6
Dwayne Washington DET 3600 DET@NO 01:00PM ET 1.55
De'Angelo Henderson DEN 3600 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 0.033
Devante Mays GB 3500 GB@MIN 01:00PM ET 0
Devontae Booker DEN 3500 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 1.4
Paul Perkins NYG 3300 NYG@DEN 08:30PM ET 4.15 Most likely will not play (ribs) and may have lost his job.
Kerwynn Williams ARI 3200 TB@ARI 04:05PM ET 2.48
Benny Cunningham CHI 3000 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 5.15
Christian McCaffrey CAR 5900 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 13.66 (ALREADY PLAYED) Give him a bump in full PPR. He’s actually drawing a lot of coverage but the pendulum should swing his way after how well the outside guys have played the last few weeks.
LeGarrette Blount PHI 4700 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 10.48 (ALREADY PLAYED) Tough matchup and Lane Johnson is out.
Jonathan Stewart CAR 4000 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 8.1 (ALREADY PLAYED) Eagles are tough up front, so he needs touchdowns.
Terrance West BAL 4000 CHI@BAL 01:00PM ET 5.82 OUT
Rex Burkhead NE 3800 NE@NYJ 01:00PM ET 8.35 Could return this week, but he’s still limited at practice so hard to see his role being big at this point. ****UPDATE**** He’s out again.
Rob Kelley WAS 4800 SF@WAS 01:00PM ET 4.367 OUT (ribs)
Wendell Smallwood PHI 4700 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 7.475 (ALREADY PLAYED) No practice so I am assuming he sits. No way to trust him if he does play.
Corey Clement PHI 4100 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 3.22 (ALREADY PLAYED) No Smallwood again most likely so he will have a role.
Fozzy Whittaker CAR 3000 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 2.74 (ALREADY PLAYED)
Kenjon Barner PHI 3700 PHI@CAR 08:25PM ET 1.15 (ALREADY PLAYED)
