Welcome to the Week 8 Tight End Rankings. As always, the rankings in this column will be updated on Saturday, so check back, especially if you have injury issues. The byes get serious this week and you have a few solid options taking a break plus you have injury problems to Jermichael Finley and perhaps Jimmy Graham. I’ll be back with the Week 8 RBs before kickoff tonight.

Look for my Starts & Sits column on WEEI tomorrow as well as my podcast with Jim Hackett. I will have links in The Rotobahn for both and you can find all of our podcasts on the right side of the home page.

Week 8 Byes: Titans, Chargers, Bears, Colts, Texans and Ravens.

Rob Gronkowski NE MIA If he starts, he’s a great play ... all the time. Gronk looked very good last week and we expect his snaps to increase going forward.
Tony Gonzalez ATL @ARI Good matchup and he is now the #1 option though he’s seeing more defenders which sort of balances things out.
Jimmy Graham NO BUF Jimmy’s officially a game time decision. If he starts, then you have to start him, but he could end up sitting, so make sure you have another option just in case. Ben Watson is one very solid way to back Graham up, especially in deep formats, because he’ll almost always be available.
Vernon Davis SF @JAC He could go off in this game. You’d be nuts to sit him.
Julius Thomas DEN WAS Booyah! They have no answer for this guy.
Jordan Reed WAS @DEN He’s locked in as RGIII’s 2nd option after Garcon and this is a good matchup for a TE.
Jason Witten DAL @DET He should do well.
Heath Miller PIT @OAK He should do well as he is always involved and he’s proven to be healthy.
Jordan Cameron CLE @KC Tough matchup and yet another QB at the helm for Cleveland.
Charles Clay MIA @NE This guy has been very solid so far stepping in for Dustin Keller. He’s been the unsung hero in Miami.
Tyler Eifert CIN NYJ I like him this week. He’s finally broken the seal covering the end zone and the Jets are vulnerable to tight ends.
Kyle Rudolph MIN GB He’s a wildcard, but he has solid potential as a red zone guy and they will need to throw the ball in the second half.
Brandon Pettigrew DET DAL He’s been better lately and this is a good matchup. He’s startable in 12-team leagues.
Jermaine Gresham CIN NYJ A solid matchup.
Anthony Fasano KC CLE He’s a viable play now that he’s healthy.
Rob Housler ARI ATL He’s a reasonable flier if you need help. He was finally active in Week 7 with 7 catches.
Zach Miller SEA @STL He’s healthy and he’s a red zone weapon. He also caught five balls last week. You could do worse in large leagues.
Jeff Cumberland NYJ @CIN He’s banged up with a hammy and it’s a less than thrilling matchup too. Check his status before playing him. He viable if he starts.
Joseph Fauria DET DAL He’s going to be hit and miss but his usage will go up a tick or two with Tony Scheffler gone.
Zach Ertz PHI NYG He’s on the verge of breaking out. Not a terrible reach play in a big league this week.
Benjamin Watson NO BUF He’ll get a large bump if Graham is out--all the way to TE1 status.
Jared Cook STL SEA Horrible QB situation.
Andrew Quarless GB @MIN He has some upside but he is not the athlete that Finley is. What he has is experience in the system, He is playable in deeper formats if you are hurting.
Scott Chandler BUF @NO Bad QB situation.
Brent Celek PHI NYG Can make plays, but he’s a reach with Ertz coming on.
Marcedes Lewis JAC SF Bad matchup.
Brandon Myers NYG @PHI He’s doing nothing.
Lance Kendricks STL SEA Kellen Clemens at QB is brutal.
Mychal Rivera OAK PIT Pitt is tough on tight ends.
Vance McDonald SF @JAC Still needs to get more involved before he can be considered.
Luke Willson SEA @STL Miller is healthy now, so he’s more of a player to keep tabs on.
Jermichael Finley GB @MIN He’s out.
Greg Olsen CAR @TB (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 11th) Not a great matchup, but he’ll be targeted and he should be able to play despite a sore foot. He’s listed as probable.
Timothy Wright TB CAR (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 16th) Still a guy who might help you in a rough week for options. He’s healthy and ready to go tonight and the Panthers will give up some yardage to tight ends. He’s a plug-n-play option if you are in need.
