Welcome to the Week 8 Wide Receiver rankings. As always, the rankings in this column will be updated on Saturday, so check back, especially if you have injury issues. The byes get serious this week and it’s pretty damn obvious when you look at some of the WR3 options this week. I’ll be back later with the backs and tight ends. Both will posted before game time tonight.

Look for my Starts & Sits column on WEEI tomorrow as well as my podcast with Jim Hackett. I will have links in The Rotobahn for both and you can find all of our podcasts on the right side of the home page.

Week 8 Byes: Titans, Chargers, Bears, Colts, Texans and Ravens.

Calvin Johnson DET DAL He’s practicing today and he was pretty darn “Mega” last week. He’s back.
Dez Bryant DAL @DET Dez is locked in as a WR1.
A.J. Green CIN NYJ Antonio Cromartie can’t shut this guy down.
Jordy Nelson GB @MIN He’s the #1 and he will see the ball a ton.
Demaryius Thomas DEN WAS They have nobody to deal with this guy. They don’t have anybody to deal with Decker or Welker either. Points will be scored.
Eric Decker DEN WAS He’ll get his and he could score a few times if the ball is going his way.
Pierre Garcon WAS @DEN Hard to see him having a bad game here.
DeSean Jackson PHI NYG He has already lit them up and he can do it again.
Wes Welker DEN WAS He’s been a PPR monster and he’s been solid every week in standard too. Start the little ageless wonder in a plus matchup this week.
Larry Fitzgerald ARI ATL He’s getting healthier and this is a sweet matchup.
Victor Cruz NYG @PHI He’s been inconsistent, but he has big game potential this week.
Anquan Boldin SF @JAC The Jags give up points to receivers and he should see the ball.
Marques Colston NO BUF He’s going to get things going.
Antonio Brown PIT @OAK He should be a solid play this week.
Jarrett Boykin GB @MIN Boykin is a very strong play this week with Jones likely out plus Cobb and Finley.
Stevie Johnson BUF @NO He’s going to see the ball.
Terrance Williams DAL @DET Looking good this week with Austin still less than healthy.
Mike Wallace MIA @NE He should be a featured player this week.
Michael Floyd ARI ATL He’s a beast and they are starting to use him more. He’s a WR2 this week.
Justin Blackmon JAC SF He’s been great but this is a tough matchup, obviously and he’s playing at less than 100% with a tight hamstring that kept him out of practice much of the week.
Hakeem Nicks NYG @PHI He’s playing for money. Not that you’d know it. Still, he’s worth a play this week with so many players down.
Rueben Randle NYG @PHI He eats them up for whatever reason. He’s a solid Week 8 play.
Josh Gordon CLE @KC He’s risky, but he can go off any time and this is a tough week for receivers.
Cecil Shorts JAC SF He’s banged up and it’s a bad matchup but he continues to get it done, so you can start him.
Harry Douglas ATL @ARI Tough matchup, but he’ll be targeted often.
Danny Amendola NE MIA He’s passed all of the required concussion tests and seems like he’ll play. How long he lasts is always an open question, but you have to play the guy if he’s starting, especially in a PPR format.
Brian Hartline MIA @NE He’s a viable play.
Denarius Moore OAK PIT Not a very good matchup, but he is playing well.
Greg Jennings MIN GB Well, he’ll undoubtedly be motivated.
Kenbrell Thompkins NE MIA He’s somewhat dependent on the big play, but he’s made enough of them to make him a WR3 this week.
Emmanuel Sanders PIT @OAK He has some upside this week.
Kris Durham DET DAL He’s active every week and has a chance to post WR3 numbers.
Donnie Avery KC CLE He could make some play with Joe Haden shadowing Bowe.
Golden Tate SEA @STL Worth a look as a flex, but you might want to have to have a plan B because Tate is nursing a sore shoulder.
Jeremy Kerley NYJ @CIN He’ll probably be the Jets best WR this week.
Julian Edelman NE MIA Could get a bump if Amendola sits again, but all signs point to him playing.
Brandon Gibson MIA @NE He’s making plays every week.
Aaron Dobson NE MIA He’s a nice flex flier, because he’s been used a lot the last few weeks. Now he needs to start finishing the way he is capable of.
Dwayne Bowe KC CLE He’ll have Haden on him. Not a great matchup and he is banged up (groin.) He missed practice Friday but is expected to play.
Riley Cooper PHI NYG Will he continue to make plays with? His production started picking up with Foles at the helm. It’s something to watch, but we like Cooper in this matchup.
Kenny Stills NO BUF Stills was huge against NE in Week 6 and we expect his role to grow.
Sidney Rice SEA @STL He’s a tough guy to figure, but his big play was also a broken play so don’t get too excited.
Jerome Simpson MIN GB He’s a reasonable flier as they should be chasing.
Mohamed Sanu CIN NYJ He has big play potential against the Jets.
Greg Little CLE @KC Tough matchup.
Robert Woods BUF @NO QB issues for sure.
Marvin Jones CIN NYJ He keeps making plays and the Jets do not matchup well with him.
Stephen Hill NYJ @CIN He should rebound from his recent slump, but this is a tough matchup for sure.
Cole Beasley DAL @DET He’s heating up and is a solid play in deep PPR formats.
Lance Moore NO BUF He’ll return this week if all goes according to plan. He’s a flex option in deep formats..
Jason Avant PHI NYG He likes to make plays against NY.
Leonard Hankerson WAS @DEN He’s been up and down but he’s
Andre Roberts ARI ATL Was involved last week, which is a step in the right direction. He’s a reach play this week, but at least the matchup is good.
Jerricho Cotchery PIT @OAK He’s been involved almost every week and with Markus Wheaton still sidelines, he should catch a few more in Week 8. Cotch is a nice desperation option in large formats.
David Nelson NYJ @CIN Tough matchup, but Nelson has looked pretty good as a Jet so far. He was actually targeted 7 times last week and racked up 80 yards receiving. Santonio Holmes is out again, so Nelson should get some looks.
Aldrick Robinson WAS @DEN They want to get him more involved and he did make a big play last week.
T.J. Graham BUF @NO He’s been a lot more active lately and he could be used a desperation option in big leagues.
Austin Pettis STL SEA Major QB issues.
Tavon Austin STL SEA Major QB issues.
Cordarrelle Patterson MIN GB He has three receptions against the Giants and they are trying to use him more. He’s still not ready to help fantasy GMs, but he has bust out potential due to his absurd talent.
Drew Davis ATL @ARI He could do more this week and Roddy White is still out. Davis is a legit flier in large formats.
Dexter McCluster KC CLE He’s had a few solid weeks, but he disappears too.
Rod Streater OAK PIT Can make the big play so he’s a viable flier.
Brian Quick STL SEA Major QB issues.
Marquise Goodwin BUF @NO He’s a play-maker but he needs a QB to work with.
Ryan Broyles DET DAL Looked a little better last week.
Santana Moss WAS @DEN Not making consistent plays.
Davone Bess CLE @KC Not doing much and has seen a role reduction.
Doug Baldwin SEA @STL Could have a bigger role if Tate misses the game.
Chris Givens STL SEA Major QB problems.
Kyle Williams SF @JAC Could always make a big play. He’s almost due to make one.
Mike Brown JAC SF He’s been active the last two weeks, but he’s still a 3rd option at best and it’s a tough matchup.
Austin Collie NE MIA Could be a reach play in deeper formats if Amendola sits out.
Darius Johnson ATL @ARI He could make a few plays.
Mario Manningham SF @JAC Sounds like he’ll sit out another week.
Roddy White ATL @ARI Unlikely to play. Will get a bump if he practices Friday.
Miles Austin DAL @DET Still hurting and could sit this week.
Santonio Holmes NYJ @CIN Holmes will get a bump if he practices in full on Friday, but it appears that the Jets could hold him out until after their Week 10 bye. I’ll adjust accordingly on Saturday.
James Jones GB @MIN Most likely out this week.
Steve Smith CAR @TB (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 19th) Not a great matchup.
Brandon LaFell CAR @TB (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 41st) Could make a few plays and he’s a TD threat.
Ted Ginn CAR @TB (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 61st)
Vincent Jackson TB CAR (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 6th) Tough matchup, but V-Jax is a monster.
Mike Williams TB CAR (ALREADY PLAYED ... originally ranked 36th) Should be a solid play this week now that he is fully healthy.
